A Research on the Busan Nursing Student¢¥s Views of the Profession

Abstract
Here was investigated into the matters of the 476 students in the 3 professional nursing schools and the Department of Nursing, Busan Medical College, by sampling method : 1) the factors influencing the choice of nursing science, 2) the degree of the students¢¥ satisfaction and suitability, 3) the problems of practical training at a clinic, 4) the students attitudes¢¥ on the nursing profession, and 5) the students¢¥. interests in their future.
Upon the survey research data-analysis, it came to the conclusion as follows:
1. The factors influencing the choice of nursing science.
On the day of deciding to choose the science of nursing, the highest rate of 69.7% responded to "high-school day" ; about the considerations in choice, 37.7% to "my aptitude" ; about whether having any previouse knowledge in choice, 76.6% to "Yes"; and in the sources of their preliminary knowledge, "a family or relative who engaged in a nursing prefession" showed the relatively high rate of 35.2 %.
Lastly, in the motive of choice, the highest rate of 25.5% responded to "expectation of self-sustenance".
2. The degree of the students¢¥ satisfaction and suitability.
The affirmative rate to self-satisfacton of the choice was 72.7%. The reason of denial(27. 3Y.) was almost "because of not being suitable to aptitude". The highest response against school-life discontent wa "conflicts arising from a disharmony of discourses to the practical training at clinic" (32.3%). And the response rate to "consulting with family or a relative" when to generate any problem was the highest (47.9%).
3. The problems of practical training at a clinic.
The absolute rate of 90.1% responded to "Yes" against whether having any problem in the training process, and "conflicts arising from human relations" among its reasons occupied the highest rate of 63.0%.
4. The students¢¥ attitudes on the nursing profession.
In case of pursuating any profession to a younger sister of theirs, the response from the whole respondents was distributed as follows : 1) teacher" (38.7%), 2) "pharmacist"(12.0%), 3) "nurse" (10.0%), and 4) "medical doctor" (9.2%).
In case of pursuating a nursing profession, the rate responding to "the high possibility of making use of home-life" was the highest (66. 7%). The students¢¥ opinion on the unkindness of nursrs showed the affirmative 58. 9%, and denial 25. 6%. The greatest reason of affirmation response was "their excessive duties arising from shortage of nurses" (32.4%).
5. The students¢¥ interests in their future.
The response to the aspired fields after graduate was distributed as follows: 1) "nursing at a clinic" (44.5%), 2) "nursing education" (26.8%), and 3) "sanitary nursing" (9.6%).
